YOGA NIDRA: TBA
From guest instructor Roberta Strickler:
Yoga Nidra, to my way of thinking, is the perfect bridge between the physical, the mental and the soulful aspects of a complete and personal yoga practice. Yoga nidra is often the first taste of the rest-from-thinking that we come to know as meditation.
Most of us come to yoga because we want the thorough relaxation of the body that comes from practicing asanas (poses). And so, Yoga Nidra begins there – in detailed awareness of the body - with gentle stretching. We are guided, then, to another awareness of just what is going on when the body begins to settle down. Finally, we often experience the “nidra” that completes the resting phase, the stillness.
Nidra means “dreamless sleep”. But, in fact, it is difficult to know how to describe that. We waken. We know we’ve been somewhere, a place that is completely quiet and restful. But we’re not in a sleep, as we know that term.
Roberta Strickler has been teaching yoga, meditation, and mindfulness in central Pennsylvania for 20 years. She studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn at Mount Madonna in California. Roberta’s yoga certificates were earned at Kripalu and with John Friend in Anusara Yoga. She has the highest designation, E-500 with the Yoga Alliance.
