Yoga for Athletes: Mobility, Recovery + Performance

Designed for yoga teachers looking to expand their knowledge and confidently work with athletes of all levels, this 4-hour continuing education course explores how yoga can support athletic performance, mobility, recovery and longevity.

Led by Rachel Burns, E-RYT 500, with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, this training combines a strong understanding of movement and the body with practical, real-world yoga application.

We’ll break down common movement patterns and areas of tension in athletes, explore the difference between mobility and flexibility, and learn how to adapt yoga based on an athlete’s sport, training demands and recovery needs. You’ll also learn how to incorporate functional movement, stability work, intentional stretching and foam rolling into classes designed to complement—not compete with—an athlete’s training.

Topics include:

  • Functional anatomy + common patterns in athletes

  • Mobility vs. flexibility

  • Yoga for performance, recovery + rest days

  • Pre- and post-workout movement

  • Sport-specific considerations

  • Foam rolling + myofascial release

  • Sequencing Yoga for Athletes classes

  • Hands-on practice + application
